Sunrise maintains it wants Belizean control of B.T.L.
In the latest hiccup in the B.T.L. legal battle, the Chief Justice postponed his expected judgment until Wednesday morning at nine-thirty. While that decision will be with regard to the composition of the legally beleaguered company’s board of directors, other developments today concerned the Belizean entity Sunrise and its bid to take over B.T.L. In a release issued by the group this afternoon, Sunrise claims that it is being courted by two suitors: Michael Ashcroft and Jeffrey Prosser. We don’t know if they brought flowers and chocolates, but we understand that both proposed…to form an alliance with Sunrise, apparently to get rid of the other. But Sunrise promptly shot down both men stating categorically that, quote: “an alliance…is against the Sunrise concept and commitment of having employees and Belizean participation.” We understand that Lord Ashcroft’s offer included “funding to proceed with the purchase of the existing thirty-seven percent of the shares” from the Government of Belize. Meanwhile, Sunrise says it is still negotiating with Prosser and Innovative Communication Corporation to buy the B.T.L. shares presently held by I.C.C. Sunrise, owned by Belizeans Karen Bevans, Gaspar Aguilar, and Roberto Young, maintains that it will wait until B.T.L. is clear of its legal entanglements to conclude its purchase of the company.
