Police Officer Recognized for Rescuing Cadets from Killer Bees

Today, the Ladyville precinct of the Rural Eastern Division of the Police Department came alive as one of the officers attached to the formation was honored. Police Constable, two-two-five Randy Lyons was awarded by Regional Commander, Senior Superintendent Edward Broaster following his active role in protecting a group of cadets on camp in Dangriga from a swarm of killer bees. On August eighth, the senior group went on a planned cave tour in Pomona Valley. While outside, a swarm of killer bees attacked them and PC Lyons risked his life, drawing the bees away from the group. He was stung multiple times and had to be hospitalized at the Southern Regional Hospital for several days. Today, the department honored the officer for his bravery.

“Mister Randy Lyons and another instructor from Orange Walk ran inside telling us to get down, get down; the bees are coming. Some of the cadets did not believe the bees were coming, they thought it was a prank attack. But the bees were coming and while they were coming in, Mister Randy Lyons ran and the bees attacked him; he ran so that he can save some of us from getting bitten because we were all around him.”

And that’s exactly what PC Lyons did. He ensured that he distracted the bees away from the cadets and he took the brunt of the sting by the bees.”
