2 Youths Remanded for Aggravated Assault

Dwayne Evelyn

Tonight, two of three Belize City youths, Dwayne Evelyn and Lloyd Leslie Junior are on remand at the Belize Central Prison accused of committing an aggravated assault with a firearm upon a Belize City resident.  A third gunman, a sixteen year old, was mistakenly shot when the firearm malfunctioned and he is expected to be charged later. Last Friday, we told you about the alleged stake-out of a youth by three men who were waylaying him at the Compound of the Queen Square Anglican Primary School. Today, Evelyn and Leslie Junior were arraigned for Aggravated Assault upon Delbert Palacio.  Leslie Junior was additionally charged with another count of Aggravated Assault with a firearm upon Palacio.

Lloyd Leslie Jr.

Both pleaded not guilty to the charge, were denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October twenty-sixth, 2015. The sixteen year old minor remains hospitalized under police guard.  Reports are that Evelyn, Leslie Junior and the minor were waiting in a dark area for Palacio and but the firearm jammed and later discharged hitting Mark Phillips to the abdomen.  Evelyn is no stranger to the police; he was once charged with murder, but beat that charge. Leslie Junior has had several charges before the court for robbery.
