Speednet officially begins service
Around two weeks ago we reported the “soft” opening of Speednet’s new telecommunications service. And while since then a lot of news has been generated by recent battles over ownership of BTL, the folks at Speednet kept plugging away. Last night they held their formal opening, and while Minister of Communications Vildo Marin could not attend–due to the imminent birth of his child–his stand-in–Minister of Home Affairs Ralph Fonseca–managed to use the occasion to dispel some rumours and demonstrate the abilities of his new phone.
Ralph Fonseca, Minister of Home Affairs
?Someone asked me this morning what I felt about Speednet being disconnected from BTL and I didn?t know what they were talking about. I said don?t know. You know more than me. But just to prove that in fact that is not so and at BTL business continues being ran by Belizeans and Mr. Aguilar and that Speednet continues being ran by Jaime and his team. We are going to try and call the Minister of Communications and see what is happening with that baby.?
Jaime BriceƱo, Chairman, Speednet
?We are calling a BTL number just to note.?
Ralph Fonseca
(Talks to Minister Vildo on his BTL phone)
?Hello Minister Vildo this is Ralph Fonseca in front of a bunch of very distinguished ladies and gentlemen that wants to know what is happening with you kid.? (Laughs)
?Not yet? ?
?But you are involved??
?We are only wishing you the very best. You are getting the first official call and you should as Minister of Communication on this Smart phone.?
In related news a hearing to determine if the Belize Government should be held in contempt of a judicial order will take place tomorrow in the U.S. district court in Miami.
