Media Colleague Hold Food Drive In Memory of Kareem Clarke

Marisol Amaya

On Saturday, personalities from various media houses will come together to ask Belizeans for help. Friends who have joined to form the Kareem Clarke Memorial Fund will be holding their first food drive in the name of their fallen friend and colleague, murdered last month. Today, we spoke to Krem’s Marisol Amaya, treasurer of the Fund, who told us more.

“We will be holding three events per year…two of them will be food drives and the proceeds or the donations from the public will be forwarded to the St. Joseph Feeding Program, that’s one…and then in November we have the biggest event which is around his birthday on the twenty-first…that one will include a literacy fair and will include an award to an essay competition winner. So that is the purpose of the fund, to ensure that we remember Kareem for who he was. He was a great writer and a great person as well. Tomorrow we are having our first fundraiser and as I mentioned it’s a food drive. There will be three areas within Belize City where we will be stationed, and by we, I mean media colleagues. You have Marleni Cuellar and Duane Moody from Channel Five, Hipolito Novelo from Love FM…we also have Emmanuel Pech coming up from Plus Television down from Belmopan. And so many more…as well as Kareem’s family members…his brother, his Mom Ms. Julia and so will his sister Melanie and other people. It’s starting at ten a.m. and ends at two p.m. at K-Park in the King’s park area of Belize City and then Brodies on the highway and downtown…so we are very much grateful to them for giving us that opportunity to put ourselves outside their stores and ask the shopping public to just purchase an extra item and just deposit that in our carts that we’ll have outside. For those who have those items at home and they may want to make that donation they can just drop off at those three different spots.”

The items collected will be delivered to the St. Joseph Feeding Program on Saturday.
