Albert Pandy Organizes Highway Cleanup

A resident of the Georgeville Community on the George Price Highway in Cayo has started a cleanup campaign to inspire civic pride among the villagers. This past Sunday, Albert Pandy, organized a major cleanup initiative along the stretch of the highway that passes through the village, trimming the hedges, picking up the garbage and cleaning the school compound and the cemetery. Over a hundred persons, primarily youths from within the community, came out for the initiative. Pandy came to News Five studios and spoke about the importance of the clean-up, to coincide with the start of the school year and the September celebrations.

“I did a very massive voluntary cleanup campaign. This is for the village community….we dealt with it so that we can have the whole place looking nice. If you notice, I have people that come around every September for the celebrations. I have it with beautiful flags and decorations and this year, I decided to stretch it longer from one bridge to the other. So we ended up cleaning from the bridge by Hot Mama’s Pepper place and right down to the palm trees. We cleaned up some of the palm trees and the dirt and stuff…all the drainage and we came up to the center. At the school, we cleaned up the whole area to the burying ground where we noticed that for years it wasn’t cleaned. And so we decided just to clean up the entire area. And the reason why we do it is for the September celebrations and for the opening of the new school year. When I do it, it will be mostly inside on the village instead of on the main. We are trying to do every month of pickup up the garbage instead of having it scattered about the place. So we plan to do it every month. But for the next time weh we have wah big cleanup will be like December, every three months.”

Pandy says that another major clean up will be done in December and will focus primarily on other areas in the village.
