Robber jacks gas company bank deposit

Belize Western Energy Limited would not comment on just how much money was stolen on Thursday morning but sources tell News 5 it was a sizeable payroll snatched from an employee who was held up at gunpoint just outside of the company’s office on Central American Boulevard. The robber, described only as a clear complexioned man, apparently was waiting outside the compound. As soon as the Western Energy worker left the building, he was approached and a weapon placed against his side. According to the company’s spokesperson, their employee was on his way to the bank to make a deposit of cash and cheques. So far, police have not detained anyone in connection with the crime but it is believed that the perpetrator knew the company’s operations. According to BWEL, a few days ago they observed someone outside their business place acting suspiciously and reported the matter to police. That individual was detained but later released. According to the spokesperson, the man interrogated does not match the description of Thursday’s suspect and they do not know if the incidents are related. It is not the first time that BWEL has been robbed. We understand that just three weeks ago an undisclosed amount of money was taken from another employee. That stolen loot was never recovered and no one has been held for the incident.
