Caretaker of May Pen Farm Butchered to Death

There were several violent incidents over the Carnival weekend in the city and in rural Belize district as well as in the south. But we start with a murder that occurred in the May Pen Village off the Phillip Goldson Highway near mile twenty-four. On Saturday morning, forty-two year old Carl McCulloch made a gruesome discovery at his farm in May Pen; his fifty-one year old caretaker, had been butchered to death and his body dumped in the Belize River. Jorge Eduardo Aguirre, a Salvadoran national from Carmelita Village in Orange Walk was viciously attacked with a machete; his right hand and foot were severed and he had large cut wounds to the neck and head. The blood trail on the scene indicated that Aguirre’s body was dragged to the river bank and thrown into the water. Due to the state of decomposition of the body, a post mortem was conducted at the village and revealed that Aguirre was killed last Wednesday. Regional Commander, Senior Superintendent Edward Broaster told News Five today that it is believed that the motive for the murder is theft.

“On Saturday morning, we received information of a dead body in the river in the May Pen Village where police visited that area and discovered the lifeless body of one Jorge Eduardo Aguirre, fifty-one years of Carmelita Village, the caretaker of a farm that is situated in May Pen about five miles on that road. Initial investigation revealed after the post mortem was done that he had died since Wednesday.”

“Well he was chopped to the feet, the hand the neck and the head.”

“Any motive as to why they would take his life?”

“We suspect that the motive was theft as the inventory of the sheep on that farm revealed that fourteen sheep were missing from that particular farm.”

“Talk to us about the investigation so far. Is police anywhere close to determining who could have done this?”

“We have a person of interest who we believe has been named as the suspect and we vigorously looking for him. Initial investigation does reveal that threats were made to Mister Aguirre and this was confirmed by an independent witness, whose identity I will not reveal at this time.”
There is another murder. This morning, the body of a man was found deep in the south. The man is believed to be Guatemalan vendor, Oscal Shol Ick. It is believed that he was robbed and then murdered somewhere near the village of Otoxha where he was making deliveries. The body had a large wound to the neck and was found covered with several pieces of clothing off the road side. We’ll have more on this on Tuesday.
