Guatemalan Vendor Murdered in Toledo District

Around two p.m. on Monday, the lifeless body of Guatemalan national Oscar Ik was discovered in some bushes forty-five miles outside of Punta Gorda, near Corazon Creek in the Toledo District. The twenty year old vendor, who lived in Guatemala and would travel across the border to Belize to sell clothes, was making a delivery to Otoxha when he was ambushed by at least two assailants. Ik’s throat was slit, his body dumped on the side of the road and covered by the clothes he was selling. Police say that robbery was the motive because Ik came from Guatemala to sell clothes in the villages. On Monday, he never made it to his destination. News Five spoke via phone to Clement Cacho, the Deputy Officer Commanding the Punta Gorda Police, who says they are looking for several persons in connection with this homicide.

On the Phone: Clement Cacho, Deputy O.C., Punta Gorda Police

“So far the investigation has revealed that it was a robbery and the deceased was going to make a delivery at the Otoxha Village. He was leaving from Corazon Creek village and going to Otoxha village to make a delivery of some clothing that had been ordered, however he never made it to that village.”

While police are looking for several persons of interest in the Toledo murder, in Placencia, Jeffrey Cabral has been arraigned for the murder of his cousin, Vance Cabral. On tenth September, the Placencia tour guide was shot to the temple with a nine millimeter pistol licensed to Jeffrey while socializing on a boat in Seine Bight. According to Jeffrey, he accidentally shot Vance, but the police disagree, saying it is murder and on Monday, the fifty-two year old was charged for murder.
