Cayo police kill aggressive drug suspect

Another civilian involved in a confrontation with police has been fatally shot. The latest incident occurred Wednesday evening in the Western Cayo District near Macaw Bank. According to police reports, a two-man police patrol encountered a man who had just crossed the Macal River. He was armed with a machete and carried a large sack. When police ordered the man to stop and be searched, he allegedly dropped the sack and charged the cops with his machete. According to the officers, despite firing several warning shots, their assailant kept coming…at which point he was shot in the head. The shooting victim has been identified as twenty-four-year-old Eli Sanchez of Arenal Village. We are not certain of his nationality. The sack, by the way, contained eighteen pounds of marijuana. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
