Case Resumes on October 16th
The two sides will make oral and written submissions in October concerning whether Courtenay’s decision not to call witnesses on Fiesta FM’s behalf reflects adversely on them. But according to Williams he has advanced his case and developed his line of questioning.
Rodwell Williams, Attorney for Gaspar Vega
“We were able to put appropriate questions to Mister Ramon who testified today…putting not only what he said he heard in the conversation, but what our client, Gaspar Vega also what his two other witnesses—Bobadilla and Castillo—heard. Remember now, the case is a case of slander, which is spoken words and libel, which is publication by way of the airwaves. And the words that were spoken is what we are after; not necessarily the primary place where they were first spoken by Castillo. We are not bringing a case against Manuel Castillo; the case is against those who produced or reproduced the words that were spoken. And they themselves concede certain words spoken…and imputing a crime, imputing a crime to a person is, in my view, nothing less than defamatory and slander.”
The case resumes on October sixteenth. Castillo remains on the run while three alleged accomplices are charged with Ramon Cervantes Senior’s kidnapping and murder.
