And while some exporters are looking for a fair shake on the world market, others are looking for a better deal at home. Today a delegation from the Chamber of Commerce representing the productive sector met with a high-level cabinet delegation in Belmopan. The Chamber delegation, heavy on representation from Mennonite Communities, presented a case that increased costs of fuel, fertiliser and land taxes were threatening to put them out of business and threaten the nation?s food supply. The government delegation, which included the Prime Minister and ministers of Foreign Trade, Agriculture and Investment, agreed to set up a working group with four members from each side that would meet and come up with a set of recommendations within forty-five days.
