Prosser tries to cancel Speednet contract
Much ado about nothing. That’s the conclusion of Belize Telecommunications executives in response to a nasty letter sent by Jeffrey Prosser, claiming that the signing of a March first memorandum of understanding between BTL and Speednet was in violation of an order by a Miami Court. Prosser, in a March fourth letter to Speednet telling them to cancel the MOU and stop interconnection, complains that BTL’s agreement with Speednet amounted to a prohibited “extraordinary” expense” as defined by U.S. District Court Judge Ursula Ungaro-Benages. A very tersely worded release from BTL today explained that the decision to interconnect with Speednet was made by BTL before Prosser took over the company and that after assuming control Prosser’s management team had clearly signed off on the arrangement. According to BTL, the March first memorandum was a minor formality that gave more detail to what was already agreed and therefore could not be in violation of the court order, which in any case seems to focus on stock dealing and major new spending that would negatively affect the company.
