Fishermen Remanded for Firearm Offence
Tonight two fishermen, from Belize City and a seventeen-year-old minor from Carmelita, Orange Walk District, are on remand for a nine millimetre pistol with ten live rounds which police say they found on them off the island of Turneffe Atoll. The bust was made on the eve of Independence September twentieth, 2015 during a police operation. In court this afternoon, Marcelino Kal and the minor pleaded not guilty to charges of Kept Firearm and Ammunition without a License. Due to the nature of the offenses, both were denied bail and are to re-appear in court on November twenty-ninth, 2015. Leeroy Banner Attorney for Kal, told us that he expects that the charges will be withdrawn from his client because he was not where the gun was found. Banner says that when the police visited Turneffe Atolls, only Kal and the minor were in the island, so they were both arrested.
