Courtenay chooses banking over politics

Story PictureHis legal career has not yet reached the heights of Telford Georges and his political career just seemed to be hitting stride…but tonight it appears that highly regarded lawyer and political operative Eamon Courtenay will be pursuing neither law nor politics. Instead he has a new job description: that of international banker. A release from the Belize Bank indicates that Courtenay has taken on full time employment as that immensely profitable institution’s Deputy Chairman. The release states that the former member of cabinet and trade ambassador “will be primarily involved in the development of the bank as a regional player.” Courtenay was removed from cabinet by Prime Minister Said Musa at the end of December. Other personnel moves at the bank include the elevation of president Philip Johnson to chairman, replacing Sir Edney Cain, and the addition of Christopher Coye and Martin Marshalleck to the board as executive directors. The Belize Bank is the jewel in the crown of Carlisle Holdings, the multinational corporation controlled by Anglo-Belizean billionaire Michael Ashcroft.
