Driver charged in fatal highway accident
A resident of Belmopan has been arrested following a fatal traffic accident on the Western Highway. Thirty-eight year old Victor Cuevas was charged with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, driving without due care and attention, three counts of negligent harm and negligent wounding as well as drunk driving. The charges arise from his involvement in a three car collision on Friday night between miles sixty-three and sixty-four. According to police reports, Cuevas was driving his Geo Prizm erratically and ran into a Ford pickup coming from the opposite direction. That pickup then collided with an Isuzu pickup that had been travelling behind Cuevas. A passenger in the Isuzu, Aura Rosales, received severe head and body injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at San Ignacio Hospital. The driver of the Isuzu, Aura’s thirty-one year old husband Jorge Rosales, Jorge’s brother and two children were injured as were the driver and passenger of the Ford pickup, Luis and Angelita Eck.
