Cane farmer is latest Lotto winner
He’s a cane farmer from Orange Walk…a father of eight…and now, one of two winners of Saturday’s Lotto jackpot. Fifty-one year old Belarmino Rodriguez from San Estevan Village this afternoon travelled to the lotto office on Queen Street, accompanied by one of his daughters and his comadre to claim his half of the one hundred and two thousand, five hundred dollar prize. He told News 5 that the money is a welcome gift.
Belarmino Rodriguez, Lotto Winner
?Well I don?t have an idea right now. But like how I tell you I have some bills to pay. So that?s my idea, to pay my bills.?
Patrick Jones
?So this is a big help to your family??
Belarmino Rodriguez
?Sure. Plenty help, thanks the good Lord. Thanks to the one above.?
Patrick Jones
?And the question now is will you continue to play lotto??
Belarmino Rodriguez
?Sure, I will still continue buying Lotto.?
Patrick Jones
?How did you find out you are a lotto winner??
Belarmino Rodriguez
?Well this morning I went to where I bought the Lotto ticket and I found out that I have the winning numbers.?
Those numbers, for the benefit of the second winner, who is yet to claim his or her prize are: 3-7-14-24 and 33. Whoever is holding that winning ticket has ninety days to claim the prize. After a fifteen percent income tax deduction, Rodriguez took home forty-three thousand, five hundred and sixty-two dollars and fifty cents.
