…But are Its Campaign Finances Adding Up?
At the launch of the Belize Progressive Party on October first, an open petition was made for campaign financing from the local business community. The effort to raise the necessary funds has been slow a process; nonetheless, generous contributions, albeit of lesser values continue to pour in from the general public. National Campaign Manager Bobby Lopez gave an update on the party’s financial affairs.

“The contributions continue to come in. We are not seeing any big contributions; we are now seeing actually delivered to my home the fifty dollars, the hundred dollars. Pat can tell you the two hundred; that’s what we are seeing coming in now. We are way short guys and I will be hopefully wrapping up the first report on the finances because where we had a very conservative figure of fourteen thousand per candidate, honestly it is looking like it is going to be more like three or four thousand. But at the end of the day, we are going to be on the ballot and we are going to be here on Election Day. So as far as the finance…I want to say that we are so glad that we have a husband and wife step up to volunteer and help us in the office starting tomorrow because we have been doing everything along with our treasurer. We are glad to have her because we know that she will be right there in the office now and we’ve been doing everything.”
