U.D.P. Collet Candidate Patrick Faber on the Campaign Trail

Patrick Faber

On the campaign trail leading up to the November fourth General Elections, tonight we go one on one with Collet Area Representative and Minister of Education Patrick Faber. In that division, the incumbent U.D.P. candidate will be facing off against the P.U.P.’s Yasmin Shoman and the Belize Progressive Party’s Raymond Rivers. Now the rains over the weekend exposed Collet as one of the most impoverished divisions in the Old Capital. We questioned Faber, a three term area representative and twice Minister of Education about the poverty in the Collet. Faber says his campaign is based on a re-committal of his service to the people.

Patrick Faber, U.D.P. Candidate, Collet

“For me it is not a campaign; it is a re-committal—if you will—of my service to the people and also for those persons to commit to working alongside the U.D.P.’s candidate, myself, for our continued development. Over the time that I’ve been the office; of course we’ve done a lot, but Collet remains one of the poorer constituencies in our country. A lot of poverty still exists and I try on a daily basis to eradicate this poverty. The work is not done. In fact there is still parts…you know that we’ve prided ourselves in declaring that Collet is a family and there are many elements of our family that are still not involved in the work of development that we are doing. And so that is really what I have tried during these weeks of campaigning and it will continue to embrace everybody—whether they be red, whether they be blue, whether they are Hispanic, whether they be Garifuna, whether they come from another nation and are living in our area without the proper legal classifications. We will work together in order to bring about that change in that area. And I think that message has been well-received.”
