…Says If Elected, P.U.P. Will Immediate Conduct Countrywide Infrastructure Assessment
Proper infrastructure is critically important as the flooding and rains showed over the weekend in the city. It was not among the ten priority matters in the P.U.P.’s manifesto so the media asked party leader Francis Fonseca for his take on it.
Francis Fonseca, P.U.P. Leader
“We obviously believe in infrastructure, we believe it is important. We believe that what we have witnessed over the past few days here in Belize City is an indictment of this U.D.P. government, of their incompetence. People welcome the streets, they appreciate the streets. But they expect that when the streets are being built, that they will be built properly and that there will be proper drainage to go along with those streets. That is taken for granted. People don’t have to be asking for both streets and drains; they expect that streets and drains come together as a package. So it is absolute incompetence and absolute failure of this government. Millions and millions of dollars wasted because when we go in to put in the drainage, we will have to dig up many of those streets. So it is a big issue. So yes, as soon as we form the government, we are going to do a comprehensive, nationwide analysis of the infrastructure needs of the country, including drainage and we will make sure that we advance that project with a sense of urgency because it is a very critical issue.”
