Vilma Cervantes Calls Out for Justice

This morning as the Cervantes family refuted the allegation against their only son, matriarch Vilma Cervantes took the opportunity to speak – something she has rarely done since the tragedy which took her husband’s life. Obviously struggling to remain composed, she condemned the actions which have led the family to this point.

“We are completely disgusted at the recent developments and actions. Monchi is our only son of four children. He and his had had a strong, respectable and unbreakable bond. It goes without saying that they loved each other. Anybody who knows our family knows that. Two weeks after our son won a convention my husband was brutally murdered. And now two weeks before the general election my son is being falsely accused. Isn’t this merely political malice? What are they afraid of? Losing power? The truth of my husband’s murder? We are still grieving the brutal and cruel murder of an honourable man who gave so much to his community and country. Yet, instead of having a proper investigation we have gross malicious political interference. The accused have been sitting in prison for sixteen months. Who has had access to them? Who has visited them? Who has communication with them? Why did they not make those accusations from the beginning? It is shameful the lengths they go to hinder justice, to destroy a good man’s name for dirty politics. We condemn this to the highest extent. We demand justice and the rule of law for all Belizeans. This unlawful , unethical and immoral behaviour needs to stop immediately. The power of God and the support of the people strengthen our family to combat all evil.”
