Agreement near in GOB-union dispute

Late word from the Central Bank is that representatives of Government and the NTUCB are on the verge of settling their differences, which now centre around a small core of tax issues. Sources indicate a spirit of compromise on both sides and expectations are that an agreement will be signed before the night is out, thus avoiding any threatened strike action for Thursday and Friday. In related news it appears that the Belize City Branch of the Belize National Teachers Union, still angry at what it says was an unlawful decision of the union’s leadership to end its walkout, is calling for a special convention of the entire BNTU, to be held within the next month.
