Education Minister tours reopened schools

Story PictureThe Ministry of education has announced that, due to the disruption of classes over the last two weeks, the Primary School Examination has been rescheduled. The new dates are Monday, April eleventh for English Language and Science and Monday, May ninth for Math and Social Studies. Registration deadline is Friday, February eleventh. Today Minister of Education Francis Fonseca toured E.P. Yorke High School and All Saints Primary in Belize City. He told students that he has no problem with the concept of standing up for your rights.

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education
?As the Minister of Education, obviously, I would have loved for there to be no disruption in classes. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Belizean people or any group of people who have a legitimate concern of expressing that concern. I want you to understand that. That?s a very important lesson for our young people to understand. There is nothing wrong with standing up for what you believe in. There is nothing wrong with standing up and having your voices heard, having your concerns heard and expressing those views and concerns in a responsible way. That is very important to democracy.?

Fonseca was accompanied by Chief Education Officer Maud Hyde and her deputy Allan Genity. The school visits are part of a nationwide tour to consult with principals, teachers and students and is aimed at reinforcing Government’s commitment to education.
