P.M. Barrow Dismisses Claim on Statement of Comfort
While the People’s United Party was disclosing what it calls a secret deal at Independence Hall, the Prime Minister was at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital attending the handing over of a new unit to the hospital. There, he dismissed the claim that the statement of comfort was not disclosed when he announced the settlement with Fortis back in August.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“There is a reason why they refer to an election period as the silly season; this is when all the craziness comes out. But I would hope that the media wouldn’t encourage this kind of foolishness. You showed me earlier a document or a portion of documents which the People’s United Party referred to. Every single document related to the settlement with Fortis was disclosed at the time of the settlement, was attached to a Bill that we took to the House and to legislate the settlement. So that is nothing new that these people are pointing to. And what they described as concession or facilitation …each particular item was thoroughly discussed in the debate that took place at the time we passed the law and I, with the truth, debunk all the folly, all the foolishness, all the falsity of their claims. Every so-called concession that they can point to is not anything that has been specially given to Fortis. It is what is the norm; it is what is par for the course in similar circumstance.”
