Another fatal shooting rocks city

Story PictureThe plague of deadly violence that has infected the city–particularly its south side–shows no signs of coming under control. Once again today, like a number of times earlier in the week, I was called to witness the bloody aftermath.

Jacqueline Woods, Reporting
Twenty-three year old Jermaine Barrow was at his usual hang out spot at the corner of Kut Avenue and Tanoomah Street when a lone gunman rode up on a bicycle and shot him in the left side of his head. When police arrived at the scene a crowd had already gathered where Barrows? body lay on the ground in a pool of his own blood. Police who say Barrow was shot at close range, have recovered one nine millimetre expended shell. But as Deputy Commander of the Criminal Investigation Branch Inspector Oscar Puga gathered whatever information he could from the crime scene, Barrow?s family is trying to cope with their loss.

Marva Raymond, Aunt of the Deceased
?This is a shock; Jermaine got a death like this, no man. I speak to this fellow all the time. Man, I cannot take this because it makes me remember my son.?

Five year?s ago Marva Raymond?s son was murdered. Today, the killing of her nephew makes it even more difficult to deal with the tragedy. On December seventeenth, Barrow was released from Hattieville Prison after being on remand for four months in connection with an aggravated burglary. The family says they do not know why their loved one was killed. On Monday, Barrow would have celebrated his twenty-fourth birthday.

Marva Raymond
?We told him to be careful right. He said yes aunt Marva. I said okay then. I said take good care. So I am out there enjoying myself with my grandkids out at the Yabra listening to all the happenings and when I got home this is the news I got from my next daughter?s boyfriend. It was a shock to me.?

Jacqueline Woods
?And he never ever expressed that he was scared of anything??

Marva Raymond
?No, he said he has God in him and he will change.

Police have since detained one person in connection with the murder.

If you have any information that can assist the police in their investigation please call Crimestoppers at 922.
