Police Break Down Citizen Security Guidelines for Election Day

Across the country, final preparations are underway before the opening of polls on Wednesday morning.  Among the many responsibilities the police department is tasked with is citizen security.  Officers from all formations of law enforcement will be working overtime to ensure that voters are safe and that the peace is kept throughout the process.  In San Ignacio and Santa Elena towns, where Superintendent Andrew Ramirez is the officer in charge, there has been some unrest ahead of the general elections.  This afternoon, he took time to urge residents of the twin towns to remain calm when exercising their democratic right.

“Due to the fact that tomorrow is D-Day for general elections that the San Ignacio Police Department and the Belize Police Department on a whole, we ask all parties involved to try and remain peaceful with each other.  Let it be a really democratic general elections as has been uttered by the Honorable Prime Minister Dean Barrow and similarly by the Leader of the Opposition Honorable Francis Fonseca.  And I just ask those persons who are helping to create havoc to refrain from that and listen to their leadership that problems will not solve any situation unless citizens decide who they want to be their representatives at the National Assembly.  Thank you.”
