A break in Hummingbird robberies?
Police appear to have made a major break in a rash of armed robberies in the Stann Creek Valley. On Sunday they detained two Honduran nationals who were found in possession of an Ak-47 assault rifle and military style camouflage clothing. According to police reports, one of their patrols near mile twenty-five on the Hummingbird Highway observed two men acting suspiciously, who, upon seeing the officers, ran into the bush. The cops apprehended them and found the gun and clothing nearby. In the last two months there have been at least three incidents in which men dressed in camouflage and wielding assault rifles have held up tourists and residents of the area. The Hondurans are expected to be formally charged by Tuesday and police continue to seek more suspects.
