Ibrahim Smith Gets 7 Years for Possession of Stolen Shotgun

Ibrahim Smith

While Senior Superintendent Chester Williams was being called to the bar this morning, twenty-three-year-old Ibrahim Smith was being put away behind bars after being sentenced to seven years in prison.  In November 2010, a student of Sadie Vernon High School was accidentally shot and killed at home after a man she knew accidentally discharged a stolen firearm inside the residence.  While awaiting trial for manslaughter, Smith was found guilty of keeping a prohibited firearm and handling stolen goods.  Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer, who presided over the matter, found that there was overwhelming evidence to convict him of the offenses.  In court, prosecutor Inspector Hector Rodriguez called on a witness who testified that he saw Smith running out of the house shortly after the incident and that he hid a gun behind the house.  The following day a police officer found the weapon where the witness said he saw it being hidden.  It was subsequently learned that the firearm was the property of Steven Young and had been stolen two months prior to the fatal shooting.  The sixteen gauge shotgun had been altered at the time of the shooting.
