Belize City Businessman Executed on Vernon Street
Belize City Businessman and owner of Perez Construction, Ruben Perez was murdered in cold blood sometime after three this afternoon. Perez was killed at his Sand and Cement Distribution Company located near the junction of Vernon Street and the George Price Highway. Two men on bicycles reportedly rode into the business and opened fire on the proprietor; Perez was hit once to the head, before the gunmen rode off on separate bicycles towards the highway. Perez was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, but succumbed minutes later. Police arrived on the scene shortly after to process the scene. News Five spoke to Inspector Alejandro Cowo of the Crimes Investigation Branch about this latest homicide in the city.

“Some time after three in the evening we responded to a shooting at 328 Vernon Street, that is Perez Construction Hardware. Upon our arrival at that location we saw a male person who was lying on the ground bleeding. He was taken to the KHM, however the man succumbed to his injuries after being treated at the K.H.M.H. Our investigation is that he was inside his business when two person entered riding a bicycle and there was some sort of argument between them and a struggle and there after one of the male person fired a single shot at the proprietor who is Mr. Ruben Perez. As I mention at this time the police is presently looking for two male person and the investigation continues at this time. He was the only person at the business place at this time and we cannot tell you if this is a robbery or what is the motive behind the murder but we are following many leads that we have at this time and we are interviewing other person to see what we can get from them. He was shot one time and we don’t have the names of any suspects at this time but we are speaking to some persons and from there we are trying to establish the identity of the person but we have no names at this time.”
