Another Belize City man was gunned down on Thursday.  This time the targeted assassination took place in Ladyville, in an area known as Japan.  Kevin Peters, alias Breast, was an infamous figure in the Taylor’s Alley neighborhood.  He met his bloody end in a hail of gunfire while celebrating Thanksgiving with his family.  Police have not confirmed a motive but believe they have several workable leads that they are looking into.  News Five’s Isani Cayetano has the following story.

Kevin ‘Breast’ Peters, a well-known affiliate of theTaylor’s Alley Gang, is dead.  He was mortally wounded on Thursday night while attending a Thanksgiving dinner with his family in Ladyville.  Peters reportedly left the gathering sometime after eight o’clock and upon returning to his sister’s house onSamuel Gray Street, he was pursued by a gunman who let loose as many as four shots in his direction.

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster, Regional Commander, Rural Eastern Division

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster

“Yesterday at about eight-thirty p.m. we received a call of a male person that was shot in the Ladyville area, in the area of Japan which is known as Japan.  That male person was learned to be Kevin Peters, who was shot to the abdomen.  He was rushed to the Belize Defense Force Medical Center where he was later transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and he was pronounced dead on arrival by the medical practitioner at that location.”

Peters, a resident ofBelize City, was a long way from home when he met his end.  No stranger to the law, a previous attempt on Peters’ life dates back to April 2012 when he  escaped grave injuries following a fatal shooting incident at the corners of Orange and George streets.  While the deadly spray was meant for him, the barrage of bullets found their mark on twenty-year-old Orlando Reyes.  Unfortunately, he would not escape Thursday’s attack.

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster

“The investigation is currently ongoing.  We do not have a motive at this time.  We’ve managed to apprehend four individuals who we have in custody, one of whom we believe is the shooter.  Four expended shells were found on the scene of nine millimeter caliber and at this time we are attempting to secure witnesses to get statements from them regarding this incident.”

“Is he known to police?  Does he have any affiliations with any of the gangs in the city?”

Edward Broaster

“He has affiliations with theTaylor’s Alley Gang.  He is known to police.”

“You mentioned that he was shot in the abdomen and you also mentioned that there were four expended shells recovered from the scene of the shooting.  Was he hit once in the abdomen?  Was he hit multiple times?”

Edward Broaster

“We know that he was hit once to the abdomen, yes.”

Residents in the area, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, told News Five that they heard a volley of shots but thought nothing of it.  Upon taking a closer look they saw a dark complexioned man lying on the side of the street.  Immediately thereafter, family members who were also attending the event rushed to his aid.

Isani Cayetano

“You mentioned earlier that you have not been able to ascertain a motive as yet.  Is there any effort to explore the angle of any relation to the incident over the weekend in regards to Big Tom?”

Edward Broaster

“We are looking into that.  We are certainly not ruling it out.  We have two other threats that are related to that incident in Belize City that we are currently dealing with at this time.”

Information reaching our news desk suggests that there is an ongoing feud within theTaylor’s Alley Gang concerning the proceeds of a heist at First Caribbean Bank on July thirty-first.  Police are also pursuing that angle. Isani Cayetano reporting for News Five.
