COLA President Geovanni Brackett Released Without Charges

COLA President Geovanni Brackett, one of five persons who protested on Coney Drive, was released at around midday from the Queen Street Police Station, without being charged. He told News Five that he feels that he was targeted by the GSU, but that is just the price that any activist must be prepared to pay.

“If they wanted to charge me for an illegal gathering, I didn’t know anybody else would have been out there. I went to make a personal statement. I know individually I had my conviction and I thought that whether it was ten thousand or just one person out there somebody had to make an initial statement to let this be known…this is an enemy of the state. Jimmy Morales has claimed this nation, and he comes in and is protected by our authorities, treated VIP. Usually when you have two enemy states they would meet on neutral ground, and you wouldn’t invite the leader of your enemy to come into your nation, sit in your best hotels and get protected by your best officers, your best law enforcement. So we believed that we had to make a statement this morning to let this gentleman know that he is not welcome in Belize, at least not be everybody, that there is opposition. There are people that still believe that this eight thousand, eight hundred and sixty seven square miles still belongs to this nation.”

Brackett was only given a stern warning before being released without charges.
