New Miss Belize chosen without pageant

Story PictureIt did not have the pomp, circumstance and drama of a beauty pageant but this afternoon Miss Belize 2004-2005 was officially crowned in Belize City. She is twenty-two year old Andrea Elrington, daughter of Cora Lee and Hubert Elrington. According to Pageants Belize Limited, for financial and technical reasons, this year’s Miss Belize was chosen through an application process from a pool of hopefuls in December. Elrington, who succeeds Leilah Pandy, is scheduled to participate in this year’s Miss Universe Competition to be held in Bangkok, Thailand in June. A student of Mass Communications at Fort Valley State University in Atlanta, Georgia, Elrington told News 5 that her intent is to make Belizeans everywhere proud of her efforts.

Andrea Elrington, Miss Belize
?The Belizean public can expect a person who is vibrant, a person who is dedicated and someone who is smart and outgoing and someone who looks forward to learning and who looks forward to participating and who looks forward to bringing the Belizean people along with me on my journey.?

?My platform this year will be working with the Red Cross, UNICEF and Habitat for Humanity in enabling those who are here in Belize as well as in different places to be able to have a home to live. With me, I am studying abroad in school but I am a member of my school?s chapter of Habitat fro Humanity. So I have done works with those a lot and I intend to continue doing it here at home and abroad.?

According to Pageants Belize, Andrea will begin receiving training in Houston, Texas under the tutelage of Belizean American pageant consultant Margaret Johnson. Her reign will be short, however as The Miss Belize 2005-2006 pageant is scheduled for July second at the Princess Hotel and Casino.
