Photography exhibition opens at H.O.C.
His fame as an amateur photographer has recently been eclipsed by his winning of the Lotto, but Noel Escalante hasn’t let those new found riches change his habits. And so he’s back with his annual exhibition, this time at the Belize City House of Culture. Patrick Jones, ably assisted by our two interns from Gwen Liz High, were among those on hand for this morning’s opening.

The thirty-three pictures in the exhibition are the latest artistic expressions of photographer Noel Escalante. Whether it=s a southern sunset Y the majesty of life in rural Toledo or simply nature at its best, Escalante says these snapshots are his interpretation of beauty through the lens of his camera.

?This photo exhibition is sort of a potpourri exhibition. It has scenes of Belize, it has flowering plant and trees. It has a lot of different lines and patterns, it has animals, and it has a lot of different things. But the idea is to show beauty and art in natural things.?

Escalante first started to mount exhibitions in 1998 and since then has shown hundreds of his pictures all over the country. This current exhibition, which he calls informal and light hearted, runs until the end of the month and is dedicated to the memory of the woman who inspired him to take up photography.

? (Time code off couple seconds) This exhibition is dedicated to my mom because, my mom, she was a very good gardener she had a green thumb and every time that she touch actually grew, and a grew among a lot of flower and plants and now that this exhibition has a good amount of the beautiful flowers of Belize on display I decided to give my mom the honour not only to remember her memory and our lives together but also to give her the glory that she was the first one who introduce me to beauty in nature.?
And the photographer would like other lovers of plants to share that glory. .

?I would like to encourage the garden club of Belize to come out. They will probably sort of enjoy the pictures on display. Because we have a lot of pictures of flowers. They can help me to identify and give them the proper name. I have given them names just based on my own knowledge but of course they will come up with all the scientific names and the fancy names. I=d like to encourage the students to come because the pictures are taken all around Belize. And you can actually catch a glimpse of what is available in other districts.?
After the exhibition ends in Belize City, Escalante says he will take the photographs to the Banquitas House of Culture in Orange Walk for a similar display. The pictures are available for sale and prices range from thirty-five to three hundred and ninety-five dollars.
