San Ignacio Police Say Unidentified Man was Chopped to Death
While San Ignacio Police are yet to determine the identity of a man found dead in the Mennonite Beach area of Spanish Lookout, they have confirmed to News Five that he was chopped multiple times to various parts of the body. Additionally, a set of keys was found at the scene of the gruesome discovery. Those keys were found to have opened a locked door at a residence in an area known as Selena. Despite gaining entrance to the home, police were unable to find documents that would identify the victim. Inspector Reymundo Reyes says that police are still on the ground investigating what may have transpired.
On the Phone: Insp. Reymundo Reyes, Deputy O.C., San Ignacio Police
“On Tuesday, December eighth, 2015, sometime after eight p.m., San Ignacio Police visited an area about a mile from the Spanish Lookout area in front of BNE, going towards the Belize Old River where the lifeless body of a Hispanic male person, apparently seminude was found floating on the river bank of the Old Belize River. The body was guarded during the course of the night by police because it was still on the water. Apparently it was already in a state of decomposition. So on Wednesday the ninth, sometime after ten or eleven a.m., a post mortem examination was conducted on the body and it was observed that the person had what appeared to be four chop wounds to the left side of his head and that is what apparently caused the fate of the individual. Up to this moment the person has not been identified, police are still making checks in the area of Selena where a house was located. At the scene of [the discovery] a set of keys were found and the keys have revealed that it could open the padlock that was on the door of the house but no documents have been found so far so police are doing their groundwork as we speak to try and get information from the people from the village to see if we could come up with the correct name of this individual.”
