No body, but key car surfaces in Martinez case
The case of missing police constable Morris Martinez has taken what looks like a dramatic turn since our last report from Corozal yesterday. Sources close to the investigation tell News 5 that a second vehicle is now believed to have been involved in Martinez’s disappearance and possible murder. That vehicle, a car with Corozal license plates, is now in police custody and preliminary inspection has turned up what appear to be drops of blood inside. The impounded car has now been turned over the Scenes of Crime Unit for further analysis to determine if in fact it is human blood and whether it is that of Constable Martinez. What led investigators to the car? Officer in charge of Corozal police, Superintendent David Henderson, is not saying, but it is believed that the 922 hotline played a role in tracking down what looks like a crucial piece of evidence in the case. Investigators are now trying to determine who was behind the wheel when PC Martinez was abducted, and more importantly, where his body was disposed of. Investigators today conducted river and lagoon searches around the district including the slaughter house area of Corozal Town. While no body has been found so far, police on Monday charged Elio Lopez, Apolonio Cervera and Edmund Crawford Sanker Junior for robbing cash and jewellery from Martinez and a woman he was with in a secluded area along the Pueblo Nuevo road on December twenty-second.
