Annual Spirit of Christmas Concert Held in the City
‘Tis the season to be jolly and across the country, Christmas concerts and parties for children are being organized by numerous organizations as well as personalities. On Saturday, the Governor General, Sir Colville Young, held his annual Christmas party for one hundred sixty children at the YWCA in Belize City. Aside from participating in great entertainment, each child received a present from the GG and a party bag. Today at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts, the annual Spirit of Christmas Concert was hosted by the Special Envoy for Women and Children for kids from children’s homes across the country as well as children living with disabilities from various institutions. It was a fun-filled event hosted by Santa and Misses Claus with presentations from Pandemonium Steel band, Ozzy the Clown, the Belize National Dance Company, Jankunu Dancers and more.
Kim Simplis Barrow, Special Envoy for Women and Children
“Today, we are having our annual Christmas concert for kids at children’s homes across the country. We are very happy to say we have about five hundred of our children here today for our concert. This is a concert that we do on a yearly basis and we’ve been doing it for over the past five years. It really came about when I decided after my first visit to all the orphanages that I would go back and visit. But at the end of the year, I wasn’t able to go back so I decided I was just going to bring everyone together and have this big party, which is a concert really, to entertain these children. This is the Christmas season and there are so many of us who will be with our families and with our babies and some of these children don’t have that; they don’t have a family to go home to. And so it is an opportunity for us to celebrate them and celebrate with them.”
