Woman in Court for Failing to Report to Police

Yanira Mojica

A Belizean woman who was convicted in the U.S.A. for human trafficking and later deported to Belize appeared in court on Friday to answer to a charge of Failure to Report to the Police and was slapped with a fine of five hundred dollars. Yanira Mojica was fined after pleading guilty in the courtroom of Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser.   The twenty-six year old woman was deported from Houston, Texas, and was requested to report to the Corozal Police Station three times for the week, but she failed to do so in one instance. Mojica told the court that’s because she works in Belize City and when she went to sign in on December ninth, she was nabbed by the police.  The Senior Magistrate explained to her that the reporting is for the police to keep track of her.  Mojica also wanted to find out if she could report only once a week, but Senior Magistrate Fraser explained to her that there are procedures to get that approval and she must put her request in writing.
