Robbers try to jack Casino cash
Around twelve forty five this afternoon several gunshots rang out on Newtown Barrack just in front of the Princess Hotel and Casino as armed men tried to hijack the casino cash pan. Belize City police say two unidentified suspects tried to steal the money shortly after the establishment’s security courier service left the compound with an undisclosed amount of cash. As the driver, co-owner of G and B Security drove onto the street, the assailants opened fire on the unmarked Rodeo SUV. One of the bullets caught the woman in her upper back and she was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where she remains in a stable condition. News 5 spoke with the Deputy Commander of CIB Oscar Puga, to find out more about the incident.
Inspector Oscar Puga, Deputy Commander, CIB
?So far, the investigation has led to a possible two suspects in the matter who we are presently looking for. We have not detained anybody so far. However, we are looking at an attempted robbery motive at this point. But I cannot mention any names as specifically at this point in relation to the investigation.?
Patrick Jones
?You said a possible attempt. Was anything taken??
Inspector Oscar Puga
?No, nothing was stolen. As far as the investigation is concerned.?
?The information we have received so far is that the persons sped off while the attempt was in place.?
Patrick Jones
?And so that person was shot while the vehicle was driving away??
Inspector Oscar Puga
?Yes, I can say so?
Patrick Jones
?What kind of gun was used in the shooting??
Inspector Oscar Puga
?Well we have recovered some empty casings from the scene which can definitely lead us to suspect that it was a nine millimetre used in the attempt.?
Because the security company uses different unmarked vehicles to conduct their business it is strongly believed that the attempted robbery was committed by persons who are very familiar with the company’s affairs.
