A New Ambassador to Cuba is Appointed
Belize has appointed a new Ambassador to Cuba. Annie Burns Martinez, presented credentials to the government ofCubaat the Palacio de la Revolucion inHavanaaccrediting her as ambassador toCuba. Vice President and Comptroller General of the Republic, Gladys Bejerano Portela and First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marcelino Medina González received Burns at the formal ceremony. There is a substantive bilateral program of trade, culture, and tourism between the two countries. And in the health and education sectors, Cuban doctors have been working in Belize while Belizean Students have been studying in a wide range of areas in Cuba, particularly medicine. According to the Foreign Ministry, Burns addressed the issue of the current Cuban migrant crisis for which the government is calling for a regional response.
