Christ is the Reason for the Season
With the Christmas holiday weekend just a few hours away, downtown Belize City is alive with activity. While it is easy to get caught up in the commercialism of Christmas, the church is using this opportunity to remind the public that Christ is the reason for the season. News Five caught up with Canon Leroy Flowers earlier today while preparing to bear gifts for the city’s shut-ins. His message is one of caring and sharing.
Canon Leroy Flowers, Belize Council of Churches
“I want to very briefly say to all, a very wonderful and blessed Christmas. And I would like to share with you this morning the gift of Christmas which is hope, peace and love. The manifestation of God’s goodness to us is revealed in the birth of the savior, the Christ child.”
Isani Cayetano
“What can we expect in terms of people either going to church, in terms of people spending time with families and friends?”
Canon Leroy Flowers
“Well I hear a lot, people talking about the commercialization of Christmas and all that, but I love to believe it is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with family members, to share the fruits of your labor with people who have worked so hard and more importantly, to spend quality time. And so I’d love to see Christmas celebration in the positive whereby we manifest the goodness of god to ourselves, to our community to our families and of course to the neighborhood at large.”
Isani Cayetano
“And remembering, most importantly the birth of Jesus Christ.”
Canon Leroy Flowers
“Well that is the whole purpose of Christmas; without Christ, there would be no Christmas. And whether you want to celebrate it, whatever day you want to celebrate it, the fact of the matter is that we celebrate this wonderful gift as prophesied in the Old Testament whereby God would deliver the children of Israel by sending them the savior and that savior is Christ the Lord. And so I wish you all a blessed and wonderful Christmas time whereby the peace, the love and the hope of god is made manifest in all of us.”
