Story PictureHe is accused of chopping his drinking partner to death four days ago. Now San Ignacio police are asking the public’s assistance in their efforts to recapture accused murderer Melvin Salazar who managed to escape over the weekend. On Thursday Salazar of Santa Elena was arrested and charged for the crime of murder following investigations into an incident that left Ernildo Coc dead in Barton Creek. Saturday police Constables Daniel Teck, Raymond Manzanero and Mark Rodriguez were all on duty at the San Ignacio Police Station where Salazar was being held in the cell block. According to Teck, sometime around five thirty pm, he opened the cell to feed the remanded prisoner. That’s when Salazar forced his way out and ran toward the river, jumped in and swam to the other side, making good his escape. Police searched the area but to no avail. Salazar is believed to still be in the Santa Elena area and anyone knowing his whereabouts is asked to please contact the nearest Police Station.
