Reggae star comes to serenade Belize

He is a self proclaimed soldier in Jah’s Army and this weekend Jamaica’s reggae superstar Luciano is in Belize to spread the message and throw down some conscious lyrics. Dubbed the messenger showcase, Luciano, accompanied by the Jah Messenger Band, will be in concert on Saturday night at the Belize City Centre. Today the artist told News 5’s Patrick Jones, that while his message will find cultural relevance among the country’s youths, the show will be an inspiration to all ages.

“It’s good to be here in Belize. It’s my first time here and it’s very nice. I am very impressed. My purpose here is to really perform with Mr. Dean Fraser and the Jah Messenger Band and some other local artist that we are her to present the word of righteousness. As Jah Messengers, it’s only right that we should have come to Belize a long time ago. But this is the time; now give thanks for the hard work and dedication of the promoters. Give thanks for Third World Promotion and Brother Danny, Brother Ellis and others who are involved. It’s good to be here.”

“What message have you brought for the Belizean people?”

“My message is a message of peace and hope and unity of inspiration and an alternative to the system. Right now I see where the youths need cultural guidance, spiritual guidance and this is what our music really offers. I’m in the line of Brother Bob Marley, Brother Dennis Brown, with the same kind of protestant, rootical inspirational music. Cultural music.”

The show opens at nine thirty on Saturday night and Luciano is scheduled to take the stage an hour later. Advance tickets at forty dollars are available at Record Shack, Stone Music Outlet and Tambran Music Depot. At the door, concertgoers will pay fifty dollars. The show will also feature performances by Heights of Vibes, Belizean Movements and other local artists.
