New hotel opens for ?Lunchtime specials?
Earlier this month participants in Belize’s booming tourism industry gathered to honour their own in a gala night of awards. And even though 2004 is not yet over, we’d like to make an early nomination for the enterprise that will certainly get our vote for 2005’s hotel of the year. The name of the establishment is the Golden Tree Motel located on Coney Drive in Belize City. It’s claim to fame? Occupancy rates well in excess of one hundred percent, owing to its unique rate structure and marketing. We refer to ads placed in several newspapers this week highlighting the “Lunch Time Special”. From eleven thirty to one thirty customers who need “2 hours rest” can stretch out for only twenty dollars. That same catnap will cost you twenty-five at any other time of the day or night. The ad did not say whether the room rate was single or double.
