2 Men Remanded for Heroin Bust

Giovanni Requena

Two men were arraigned this morning before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer after they were busted with over eleven kilos of alleged heroin on December twenty-ninth. According to reports, tour guide Richard McDonald and fisherman Giovanni Requeña were in a taxi on the BelChina Bridge when elements of the Anti-Drug Unit swooped down on them. The men have been charged separately for the same offence, each for one count of possession of a controlled drug and supplying a controlled drug.

Because of the quantity and type of narcotic with which they were allegedly busted, Magistrate Frazer could not grant bail and both men were remanded to prison. They are to reappear in Court on March second. Requeña, who was found to have an unpaid fine for a prior conviction for drug trafficking, will serve three years in default of payment, outside of this recent case involving the heroin. Police have been surprisingly tight-lipped about the significant bust, which we are told had the participation of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency. The street value of the heroin is said to be in the region of four million dollars.
