Mexico supports O.W. school

Story PictureThe gift has nothing to do with Christmas, but for Orange Walk’s Escuela Secundaria Mexico the donation of two thousand dollars will go a long way in establishing a new activity at the school. This morning the Mexican Ambassador to Belize, Arturo Trejo, presented the cheque to Principal Juanita Lucas.

?Well Mexico donates traditionally one thousand U.S. dollars and some other small help to the Escuela Mexico, which was founded with the help of Mexico. Mexico donated some of the buildings that are part of the school and traditionally, it has been one of the projects that Mexico supports. The school carries the name of Mexico and this is one issue that we would like to underline that it was a joint project from the very beginning. We always try to support the new ideas that are bringing the Escuela Secundaria forward.?

?Well we have established what we call an ?Escolta? and that is selecting the top two or top three students of each form and we train them to be the official bearers of the Belizean flag and the National flag. In fact, we participated already in our September celebrations and it is quite a feature right now in our district that Escuela Mexico has an Escolta and we have refurbished the drums that our drum core use for parades and marches. I think that is something excited for our students and it certainly adds glamour to our programmes; for example the Prime Minister was here and the deputy Prime Minister was here recently, looking at the technical vocational developments and they were quite impressed with our Escolta and our drum core. So we are very excited about that and the students are happy of reforming themselves into having more colour in their parades.?

The school also received a bicycle that will be offered as the grand prize in the institution’s anniversary raffle in January.
