3rd time in week: death follows drinking binge
If this week’s news had a theme, it would be Drinking with Friends is Dangerous to Your Health. In the last seven days, three men in separate cases have all died after an evening of serious drinking with buddies. The latest death occurred Wednesday night near Barton Creek in the Cayo District. Reports are that twenty-three year old Ernildo ‘Chakiste’ Coc, a logging worker, was at his encampment hitting the bottom of a rum bottle with one of his co-workers. Police sources tell News 5 that the duo were also smoking weed. But somewhere in the mist, the two started to argue and Coc’s pal pulled a machete and started chopping. When police arrived on the scene at two this morning, they found Coc’s body with numerous wounds to the head and chest. The prime suspect in the case, a twenty-three year old from Santa Elena, has been detained. His name is being withheld by the authorities until after he is charged with murder tomorrow. Coc’s death is the third in a series of incidents this week as last Friday, twenty year old Leonard Waight Junior was killed in a hit and run on the Western Highway after he left his friends at a Unitedville bar. Then on Sunday, forty-nine year old Alfonso Che was found dead on the roadside in San Antonio, Toledo, following a drinking session with his friends. A post mortem certified that Che died from excess alcohol in his bloodstream.
