Stage production to address stigmatism of HIV/AIDS

Story PictureShe was among the top talents in season one of Channel Five’s hit show, Duets. And on Saturday, all eyes will be on Elizabeth Tate, the main character in a recent play produced by Youth for the Future. The play entitled, “One by One, Day by Day,” will address stigmatism and discrimination associated with HIV/Aids including issues such as family and domestic violence and character building. News Five spoke with Manager of the HIV/AIDS Education Unit, Eckert Middleton, who says that the play is instructive.

Eckert Middleton, Manager, HIV/Aids Education, Y.Y.F.
“The play is an opportunity for us to bring across the message of HIV and Aids and the issues of violence and the relationship between the two to the community. And our objective is basically to give them an opportunity to make those connections with their own lives and the lives of the character of the play. Basically, it’s trying to get people the see where the characters make mistakes in their decisions, in their choices and they can relate to that as well as figure out which part of the issues in their lives that relate to it and how they can make better choices and better decisions in their lives that can take them into more positive direction. Elizabeth is the main character and she is playing the part of Lizza who—I don’t want to give too much away—but the play is centered around her and the different challenges she’s faced with and her family plays an important part in bringing across the message.”

Encore presentations will be held at the Ladyville and Lake Independence Community Centers. Entrance to the play is free.
