Hit & run kills Cayo man

A twenty-year-old man from Georgeville in the Cayo District is dead, the victim of an apparent hit and run accident over the weekend. The body of Leonard Waight Junior was discovered around ten thirty Friday night along the side of the Western Highway just outside his village with severe injuries to the head and body. Reports say Waight was socializing with friends earlier on Friday evening at the Jamanji Bar in Unitedville. Around ten o’clock, he reportedly departed from the establishment, leaving his party and girlfriend behind, and headed up the highway towards home. But he never made it, as a short time later, the village chairman of Unitedville, who was heading toward San Ignacio, came across the gruesome scene of Waight’s lifeless body. And to make matters worse, while assistance was being sought, another vehicle reportedly sped by, running over the corpse, also without stopping. Waight’s body is now at the San Ignacio Hospital morgue awaiting a post mortem examination. A funeral for the young footballer is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in Georgeville. The police are asking anyone with information that will help them to track down the driver responsible for the death of Leonard Waight Junior to call the nearest station or Crime Stoppers at 922.
