Belikin releases 2005 calendar
It first appeared in 2000 and five editions later, the Belikin Calendar just keeps getting better. The 2005 version, featuring twelve ladies whose pictures will grace the walls of offices and homes around the country, is hot off the press. This evening, News 5?s Patrick Jones caught up with three of the models as they prepared for the launch.
Hana Aguilar, Miss July
?Well I just wanted to have a picture and it was a great opportunity for me and probably once in a lifetime. This is the first time that I have a picture somewhere.?
Patrick Jones
?What was it like putting it all together??
Hana Aguilar
?It was a lot of fun, we went to Placencia for the whole weekend and we had a lot of fun both during the photo shoot and after the photo shoot.?
?Belikin? I like beer. Everybody that knows me can tell you that and I enjoy my beer every Friday night.?
Marisha Betancourt, Miss October
?It was fun getting to know different people and different girls from different part of the country because I don?t get to travel much. Only from Corozal to Placencia, right back. So it was fun.?
Patrick Jones
?What motivated you to take part in this calendar??
Marisha Betancourt
?Well I didn?t know nothing about it much. I was on an Easter Fest swimsuit contest and they saw me and they wanted me to be on it and I said sure. I asked my mom and she said sure and my boyfriend said sure no problem.?
Patrick Jones
?So your entire family is down with this??
Marisha Betancourt
?Yeah, they were excited to see it and stuff, yeah.?
Mahalia Gomez Robinson, Miss December
?Well, it was an honour for me because I do modelling as well. And it was an honour to come and represent Belize. And the pictures came out great. And it was great.?
Patrick Jones
?What was it like working with the other models??
Mahalia Gomez Robinson
?Well sometimes you know with models there is a lot of girl fights, but actually the other girls were really, really nice. And we all got along really well and as you could see the calendar came out great because of it. So it was pretty cool.?
Patrick Jones
?What is it like for you now that you are an ambassador for a product made in Belize like Belikin Beer??
Mahalia Gomez Robinson
?It?s ecstatic. (Laughs) I?m over the moon and my family in England and in America they are very proud of me. They are very proud that I came to do this so it was great, yeah.?
General Manager of Belize Brewing Company, Hilly Martinez says he is very satisfied with the way the product came together.
Hilly Martinez, G.M., Belize Brewing Company
?Well it means two things. It means we have beautiful girls being ambassadors for a good product and we compliment each other, both the models and the beer. We have a good beer and we have beautiful women in Belize. And I think it also helps the girls to develop if they want to look at modelling as a future. Like last year I think it was four of the girls who were on the calendar went up for Miss Belize. So there is that benefit for the girls and it?s a benefit for us because it?s always something that you talk about.?
The photography was done by Richard Holder and Jeremy Spooner and the production of the calendar was done in house at Belize Brewing Company. Eight thousand five hundred copies of the calendar were printed by IMEPSA printing house in Guatemala City. Martinez says all the models are on contract with Belize Brewing for a year which authorises the company to use their image for posters, billboards and coasters promoting its products. Sometime next week the new calendar should be posted on the News 5 website. As for the hard copies, those are available from Belize Brewing for ten dollars each.
