Calypso Rose supports nursing home

Story PictureA group of Belizean women have gotten together and committed themselves to offer to senior citizens and anyone in need of after health care the service right here in Belize. The women, who are former nurses, say that too often patients are being discharged early from hospitals and left on their own to recover from their illness. DGL Nursing Registry, which received its license to operate in September, has been providing nursing care to such home bound patients. Today, the organization is in the process of raising funds toward establishing a private facility that will provide not only health care but a comfortable home, especially for senior citizens. According to DGL, they have received many inquiries from Belizeans abroad who have retired and are now ready to come back home but have nowhere to stay or anyone to care for them. The organization has also received the overwhelming support of entertainer Calypso Rose, who arrived in the country this morning to do a charity concert for the cause.

Calypso Rose, Singer

?When we become of age and our kids get grown and they leave and they go abroad we are left alone and they want to do things to help the Belizeans by building this facility that the seniors could have someone to take care of them twenty-four hours a day and see about their needs. That?s the reason why I am here. The show will be held on Saturday night at the City Centre. So I want all the Belizeans to come out and spend their money where its worthy. The money is for a worthy cause. If I could take my time to come down to my home in Belize to do this project for free, you should be able to come out and support the DGL Nursing Registry.?

?And I don?t want you to come there with only twenty-five dollars alone in your pocket because when I?m finished with you with ?Amazing Grace How Sweet the Song?, you got to drop something more in the kitty there.?

If you would like to support the charity concert, tickets are twenty-five dollars and can be bought either at DGL offices at Amara and Kut Avenues or at the door at the Belize City Centre. The concert, which gets underway at eight on Saturday night, will run for two hours. A dance follows from ten p.m. to three a.m.?
